The European Development Days will be celebrated in Brussels on 15-17 November. It is the first initiative of this kind in which all EU member states, associated and partner countries will be involved.
This year's edition will be dedicated, above all, to problems of good governance and to co-operation with the African Continent "Africa on the move".
Through this initiative European Union, the most significant donor of development assistance, wishes to call public opinion's attention to the needs of co-operation with developing countries. It also strives to strengthen the dialogue among the European Commission, particular member states and recipient countries concerning the effectiveness of assistance, as well as it desires to create a forum of interchanging experiences and opinions in the domain of development co-operation.
Apart from the presence of the EU Commissioner for Development and Humanitarian Aid - Louis Michel and government representatives, prestigious scientists and practitioners (from the government, non-government and private sector) that deal with problems of development co-operation will take part in numerous meetings and debates that constitute the event. The debate entitled "Shifting donor paradigms" will be assisted by Mr. Jerzy Pomianowski, Director of the Development Co-operation Department.
The EU member states and NGOs have been asked to organise stands within so called Global Village (November 15-17) where they will present their activities in the realm of co-operation with developing countries. The Development Co-operation Department will organise its own stand dedicated to POLISH AID (stand No.42, Brussels Expo Hall 1, Place de Belgique 1) where the visitors will be able to get information (and also watch some films) about Polish development activities in 2005 and 2006. Furthermore, they will have a chance to familiarise themselves with the organisational assumptions in the field of Polish international assistance.
