Voluntary service - working as tutors in the children’s home in Tupiza in Bolivia- continuation of project.
The project was implemented between 10 June and 31 December 2011 in Tupiza (Bolivia), and counted with participation of two volunteers who stayed there respectively from 1 July to 31 December, and from 1 September to 31 December 2011. The coordinator of the project was the Salesian Missionary Voluntary Service - Youth For The World, and the local partner was the Congregation of the Sisters Servants of Mary Immaculate – mission’s vicariate in Tupiza.
The project aimed at working with children and adolescents from the Children’s House Maria Inmaculada in Tupiza. Among the volunteers’ tasks there was house administration and care for the children, assistance with homework, preparing for school, organising workshops and additional activities for the children.
As part of the project, the volunteers cared for 38 children. Additional activities organised by the volunteers included English (38 participants, 43,5 h), IT workshops (23 participants, 30 h), art therapy (17 participants, 27,5 h), ecology lessons (38 participants, 30,5 h), photography workshops (38 participants, 20 h), general knowledge lessons (38 participants, 7,5 hours), environment and biology classes (15 participants, 8.5 hours), hygiene lectures (38 participants, 7,5 h). The volunteers helped all the pupils with homework (in total 350 h).
The volunteers provided pharmaceutical care to all children, they also bought necessary medicines and equipped first aid kit. They organised a training about pharmacotherapy and medicine management (20 h).
As part of the educational initiative after the volunteers’ return, the coordinator prepared and printed 530 copies of a calendar for 2012 with photographs taken by children from the house in Tupiza, and lesson plans related to global education. The calendars were distributed among 519 schools in Lower Silesian Voivodship.
