Mrs. Catherine Bragg, UN Assistant Secretary General for Humanitarian Affairs, on a visit to Warsaw
September 10th, on the occasion of the participation in the Network on Humanitarian Action (NOHA), Mrs. Catherine Bragg, UN Assistant Secretary General for Humanitarian Affairs, Deputy Emergency Relief Coordinator, met with representatives of the Polish government.
The first meeting with Mr. S. Rakoczy, Undersecretary of State in the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Brig. Wieslaw Leśniakiewicz, Chief Commander of the State Fire Service was related to the Poland’s growing role in global rescue and civil protection, especially in the structures of the International Search and Rescue Advisory Group (INSARAG) and the United Nations Disaster Assessment and Coordination mechanism (UNDAC).
Afterwards Mrs. C. Bragg met with Mrs. Catherine Pełczyńska-Nalecz, Undersecretary of State in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.The talks at the MFA concerned Polish cooperation with UN OCHA, mainly within the Polish participation in OCHA Donor Support Group - a group of donor countries supporting UN OCHA, to which Poland was admitted in February 2012 as the first country of Central and Eastern Europe and the EU-12. Moreover, the humanitarian situation in Syria and the Sahel were discussed.
