Towards the Future - rehabilitation of women leaving prison and provide comprehensive care to children from disadvantaged backgrounds in Santa Cruz in Bolivia - continuation of the project
The project was implemented from 1 June to 31 December 2013 in Santa Cruz de la Sierra in Bolivia. Two volunteers participated, and stayed in Bolivia from 21 August until 31 December. The project was coordinated by Salesian Missionary Voluntary Service - Youth For The World, and the local partner was Servants Missionary Congregation of the Holy Spirit.
The beneficiaries of the project were women from disadvantaged backgrounds, especially those leaving prison, women in difficult situations, and children from the area. The project aimed to enhance independence and integral development of the beneficiaries.
As part of the project, the volunteers organised bakery course (12 h, 5 participants), sewing course (12 h, 3 participants, 3 sewing machines were purchased), sculpting workshops (12 h, 8 participants), self-confidence workshop (12 h, 10 participants). Volunteers conducted also a total of 75 hours of activities for children (art, music, sport, relax), each class was attended by 15 children.
As a result of the project, 16 women gained vocational skills and motivation necessary to take up paid work. 25 local women became involved in the life and development of the centre through participation in the activities organised by the volunteers.
The volunteers worked as well with women staying in prison. There, they organised 12-hour long pedagogy course, attended by 7 women.
