Supporting Organization of the Laboratory Base in food chain and Diagnostics of an infectious diseases of Animals of the Republic of Moldova

In August 2011, a delegation from the Republican Veterinary and Diagnostic Centre of the Republic of Moldova visited Poland and was given a presentation on the organisation and scope of the activities of the National Veterinary Research Institute in Pulawy. During the presentation meeting, the Moldovan delegation submitted a proposal for the commencement of cooperation aimed at improving the organisation and operation of the laboratory base in Moldova. This was followed by two study visits of Polish experts to Moldova, aimed at identifying the partner’s needs. In the course of the second visit, the parties signed an agreement in the form of a letter of intent, which set out the principles and scope of future cooperation between them.

The Republican Veterinary and Diagnostic Centre of the Republic of Moldova has a well-equipped laboratory base. However, there is a lack in terms of the knowledge and competency necessary to adjust its activities to the EU requirements for organisation and delivery of tests in the field of food safety and infectious animal diseases.

The implementation of the project contributed to improving the operation, organisation and management of the aforementioned laboratory in the fields of the safety of foods of animal origin as well as diagnostics of infectious animal diseases, including zoonoses. It also contributed to upgrading the qualifications of the staff of the Republican Veterinary and Diagnostic Centre of the Republic of Moldova and to the adaptation of their laboratory base to EU requirements in terms of its organisation and research methods.
