On 23 March in Presidential Palace a meeting took place within the scope of the project "Preparation of the Ukrainian local governments to implement the decentralization reforms and association with the EU", which is organized by the Association of Polish Cities and the Silesian Association of Gminy and Powiaty. Project’s purpose is to provide the Ukrainian local government members with the experiences of establishing and implementing decentralization reforms in Poland, as well as the absorption of EU subsidies for development.
The meeting commenced 5-day on-site visit of representatives of 16 Ukrainian cities. In the Presidential Palace they met with the Secretary of State Olgierd Dziekoński and the Ambassador of Ukraine Andrij Deszczyca, as well as with Marcin Święcicki, MP, who presented the guests, the state of work of Polish – Ukrainian group on implementing local government reform. In the event participated also Agnieszka Dawydzik from Ministry of Infrastructure and Development, Jan Hofmokl from Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Andrzej Porawski and Mirosław Olczak, who represented the Association of Polish Cities, and Renata Koźlicka-Glińska from Polish-American Freedom Foundation.
During their stay, local government members from Ukraine will visit nine Polish cities: Gdynia, Głogów, Kalisz, Kozienice, Lubartów, Mińsk Mazowiecki, Sochaczew, Sokołów Podlaski and Toruń, where they will get acquainted with, inter alia, organization of work in the departments, issues of municipal waste management, choosing the implementers in public procurement procedures, investments and procedure of obtaining EU assets for local governments.
