Medical help for health centre in Dilla in Etiopia
The project was implemented between 15 June and 31 December 2013 in Dilla (Gedeo) in Ethiopia, and counted with participation of two volunteers, who stayed there from 28 July to 28 October 2013. The coordinator of the project was Foundation of Humanitarian Aid "Redemptoris Missio”, and the local partner was Salesian Sisters Catholic Church.
Patients and students from the centre in Dilla (health centre, vocational school and kindergarten) were beneficiaries of the project. The aim of the project was to improve the health care offered in the centre, provide access to medical tests and vaccinations, offer educational activities and continue supplementary feeding.
During the project, volunteers attended a total of 3,300 patients and offered them emergency care. They examined 750 pregnant women and vaccinated 900 newborns, and kept the medical documentation for all patients. They also conducted screening tests for 1,200 children. 4 lectures for pregnant women were organised. As part of the supplementary feeding, the volunteers help approx. 320 people, and included 30 additional people in the programme.
As part of the educational initiative, after their return, the volunteers participated in 5 lectures related with the project. They spoke at a conference in Poznan (“Health for everyone”), organised meetings in a parish in Bnin, in an Astrid Lindgren primary school in Dąbrowa, in thePhysical Education Academy in Poznań, and the Social Care House “Ognik” in Poznań, where whey spoke about their volunteering experiences.
