Information meeting, press conference and photographic exposition

On 5 September 2006, an information meeting together with a press conference was held, dedicated to the subject of assistance for developing countries and countries undergoing transformation, provided by the government of the Republic of Poland.

The meeting, which took place on 5 September 2006 together with a press conference, was hosted by Mr. Rafał Wiśniewski, Undersecretary of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The meeting was attended by representatives of countries which are beneficiaries of Polish assistance, by the media, representatives of polish ministries and non-governmental organizations cooperating with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

During the meeting, the Annual Report 2005 – “Polish co-operation for development”  was presented, which summarizes Poland’s assistance activities during the past year. In 2005, Poland designated PLN 663 million (USD 204 million) for development aid. This sum corresponds to 0.068% of the Polish GDP. The largest recipients of Polish bilateral aid in 2005, administered by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, were Ukraine, Moldova and Belarus. Minister Rafał Wiśniewski stressed the growing importance of assistance activities in Polish foreign policy, and pointed out its potential as an instrument deepening co-operation among societies.

During this meeting, a new Internet site was presented, http://www.polskapomoc.gov.pl/, dedicated to the foreign aid provided by Poland. This website will increase the transparency of aid activities undertaken by Poland and will also facilitate communication with partners interested in cooperating with the Ministry on the implementation of the assistance programme.

The meeting was accompanied by the official opening of a photographic exposition, “Polish assistance seen though the lens”. This exposition presents, among others, photographs on assistance projects undertaken in the years 2004-2005 by Polish non-governmental organizations with the financial support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, photographic documentation of humanitarian aid offered by Poland and documentation of projects financed via the Polish diplomatic missions in Africa. The photographs can be seen in the Library of Warsaw University, until 12 September 2006.
