Foreign languages education and volunteering program in CCOLT in Cambodia
The project was implemented between 11 June and 31 December 2012 in Phnom Penh (Cambodia) and counted with participation of two volunteers who stayed there from 25 June to 2 October 2012. The coordinator of the project was the Foundation "Cultures of the World", and the local partner was theCambodiaChildren Orphanage for Living and Training (CCOLT).
The aim of the project was to improve English skills among children, adolescents and students attending courses in CCOLT school, and to improve the quality of language classes offered by volunteers working there. Another component was to improve functioning of CCOLT by introducing a system of management of the work of volunteers.
Volunteers taught English to a total of 120 people. They also created a comprehensive teaching programme that systematised teaching in CCOLT, what will improve English skills of 200 students attending courses.
With a focus on creating rules for the volunteers’ work and developing tips facilitating life in Cambodia, the volunteers prepared a handbook and conducted 2 trainings for CCOLT staff.
Volunteers catalogued library collection and created a list of on-line public resources, they also purchased multimedia materials that will expand the library’s offer (10 cassettes, 2 CDs, 100 presentations, 20 DVDs), a photocopying machine and a multimedia projector).
As part of the global education initiative in Poland, the concept of international volunteering was promoted among students and teachers of foreign languages. The volunteers organised a photography contest and an exhibition of awarded photos, as well as 3 meetings about volunteering.
