On 16th and 17th of October 2012 the 7th edition of European Development Days (EDD) was held in Brussels. It is one of the most vital annual events in the field of development policy carried out by the European Union. During the recent years it has gained the status of an important forum for discussion and exchange of opinions between active participants of the debate on the development cooperation. Yearly the highest-ranking officials from donor- and recipient-countries, institutions of the European Union and non-governmental organizations participate in the aforementioned event.
The guiding topic of this year’s edition was “Supporting Sustainable and Inclusive Growth for Human Development”. Debates, panel discussions, workshops and presentations were focused on three main issues: private sector and development, empowering people for inclusive growth and sustainable agriculture, food security and resilience. Over a span of two weeks more than 20 panel discussions and over 30 workshops were held.
2012 European Development Days were also an opportunity to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Directorate-General for Humanitarian Aid and Civil Protection – ECHO, through the medium of which, over a span of two decades, over EUR 14 billion worth of humanitarian aid was donated to the people in need.
