Dental service for Abong Mbang mission in Cameroun - continuation of the project 1319/2011
The project was implemented between 10 June and 31 December 2012 in Abong Mbang and surrounding villages (Cameroun), and counted with participation of two volunteers. One stayed there from 29 September to 31 December 2012, and the other completed four short-term stays (15 June – 8 July, 25 August – 1 September, 22 – 30 October, 25-31 December). The coordinator of the project was the Foundation of Humanitarian Aid "Redemptoris Missio", and the local partner was the Order of Sisters of the Most Holy Soul of Christ the Lord.
The activities were a continuation of a project from the previous year and focused on providing dental help to beneficiaries of the project: the residents of Abong Mbang and the surrounding villages. The volunteers worked in the walk-in clinic, providing dental and prosthetic care, they also travelled to villages located further from Abong Mbang to offer dental care to those unable to attend the walk-in clinic. They organised educational activities at schools accompanied by dental check-ups for the children, took care of sterilising medical tools and updated medical documentation.
Over the course of the project the volunteers attended a total of 1000 patients. They organised educational actions in 5 schools for a total of 230 children. They travelled to surrounding villages 5 times and in total they offered dental care to approx. 500 patients.
After their return, the volunteers organised a photography exhibition, where 32 photos taken during the projects were shown. A meeting with the volunteers was attended by around 100 people.
