Borowljany boarding house – Rehabilitation Centre

Borovlyany is a township located about 15 kilometres northeast of Minsk, the capital of Belarus. The township is the seat of the Republican Scientific and Practical Centre for Paediatric Oncology, Haematology and Immunology. The Pension Borovlyany – Rehabilitation Centre project is part of a series of measures in recent years aimed at building a complex of 21 houses for the Scientific and Practical Centre for Paediatric Oncology, Haematology and Immunology in Borovlyany.

The project was implemented from 11 June to 31 December 2015 in Borovlyany, near Minsk. The local partner for the project was the local association Children in Poverty.

The direct aim of the project was to purchase and prepare a house to be used the Rehabilitation Centre, operating within the Republican Scientific and Practical Centre for Paediatric Oncology, Haematology and Immunology in Borovlyany.

The Rehabilitation Centre is the last, twenty-first house in the series of Borovlyany projects leading to the creation of a network of therapy centres offering therapy and rehabilitation activities.

The project’s implementation solved the problem of the lack of a Rehabilitation Centre in Borovlyany. A similar institution had been closed down earlier due to the adaptation of its premises to the needs of a newly established laboratory. The project made it possible to maintain continuity of rehabilitation and therapy activities for about 200 people a month.

The project was addressed to children with oncological and haematological problems and their parents. The rehabilitation and therapy activities taking place in the house purchased under the project are carried out by psychologists and pedagogues. The house bought for the needs of the Rehabilitation Centre has been located in direct proximity to the Polish house and playground – both resulting from earlier Polish Aid measures under the Pension Borovlyany project.
