Agricultural and forestry statistical surveys as the basis for management improvement of the state policy in the field of agriculture and forestry.

The National Bureau of Statistics of the Republic of Moldova (NBS) is the country’s central institution tasked with developing and disseminating statistical information. Among the topics requiring long-term cooperation in the form of development projects, the agreement signed by the Central Statistical Office of Poland (CSO) and NBS in October 2015 referred to agriculture statistics, including surveys of the structure of agricultural holdings. The Moldovan side also expressed interest in cooperation in the field of forestry statistics, particularly in terms of the estimation of key forestry-related macroeconomic indicators used in the preparation of national accounts. Cooperation with the CSO would allow NBS statisticians to gain extensive substantive and practical knowledge in the field of agriculture and forestry statistics, which would improve the quality of the statistical data collected in those fields.

The main effect of this project implemented by the CSO is that of strengthening the capacity of Moldova's national statistical system through the transfer of knowledge and practical skills in the field of statistical research in the areas of agriculture and forestry, thus allowing Moldova's statistics to converge with EU and other international standards.

- a visit by NBS representatives in Poland to, among others, the Bialystok Statistical Office;

- development for the NBS of a set of recommendations for surveys on the structure of agricultural holdings and on forestry.
