The project was implemented between 1 August and 31 December 2011 in Kiabakari (Mara) in Tanzania, and counted with participation of one volunteer who stayed there from 27 September to 31 December 2011. The coordinator of the project was the Kiabakari Foundation, and the local partner was the Kiabakari Catholic Parish.
The aim of the project was to support the Health Centre in Kiabakari by preventing the spread of malaria and other diseases, as well as preventive actions among the beneficiaries of the project, residents of Kiabakari.
During the project, a volunteer attended a total of approx. 600 patients in the health centre of Kiabakari, performed simple medical procedures (approx. 50 treatments per month), and vaccinated 120 children. The volunteer tested almost 200 children for malaria, typhoid and amoeba (93 children from the nursery, 37 pupils from the primary school and 69 children from the village). She also helped with updating medical documentation and with distribution of medicines.
Another component of the project were activities promoting healthy habits (talks with parents and the education of the children). The volunteer conducted a total of 16 meetings for parents and caregivers.
