Act locally for global change - the involvement of schools in local activities to promote Fair Trade and prevent climate change
The project was implemented between 25 April and 31 December 2011 in 10 cities of the following voivodeships: Silesian, Lower-Silesian, Pomeranian, Kuyavian-Pomeranian, West-Pomeranian and Lubusz. The aim of the project was to train students, teachers and representatives of local communities in selected issues of global education. The coordinator of the project was the Polish Humanitarian Aid.
The thematic scope of the project was related with the issues of the fair trade and climate change. Its main components were planning and consultation meetings at schools, and organising local actions about global interdependences. Throughout the project, several publications were developed and distributed, e.g. brochures “Time for a local action!”, “Climate is changing – don’t bury your head in the sand!”, “Fair Trade – good to know”, and a guide for teachers “Inspirations from Global Schools. Global education in practice”. The project was concluded with a conference.
Beneficiaries of the projects were the students and teachers from secondary schools of the abovementioned voivodeships, and representatives of the local communities.
31 schools participated in the project, and they coordinated a total of 29 local actions involving 4,413 students, 368 teachers and 871 local partners. In total, 3,000 copies of publications were published and distributed.
