Academy of Global Education in Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship
Between 1 August and 31 December, the University of Economy in Bydgoszcz carried out, in cooperation with the Mikuszewo Independent Initiatives Association, a project aimed at three groups of beneficiaries. Teachers and NGO representatives from all over the country were the first group. The second group consisted of students of: tourism and recreation, sociology, pedagogy, economics and management as well as cultural studies. Another group of beneficiaries included research workers and professionals in the field of development education.
The project was aimed at supporting the development of global education in Poland, particularly in the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Voivodeship. It was intended to improve the qualifications of people related to NGOs in carrying out global education tasks; improve knowledge of development problems among children and adolescents throughout the country; improve the qualifications of students of sociology, cultural studies, tourism and recreation, management and marketing as well as pedagogy by introducing knowledge of global problems into their curricula; improve knowledge of development problems and also encourage Bydgoszcz students and residents to reflect on their lifestyle and daily choices as well as support the introduction of global education by increasing awareness and knowledge of academic staff.
These plans were pursued through educational and cultural activities, including the organisation and delivery of a 5-day Development Summer School project addressed mainly to those working with NGOs and engaged in global education; a series of dedicated workshops for students; organisation of the Global Education Week, including a photo exhibition, a film marathon, a concert, expert seminars and the announcement of a text competition and the release of a publication.
