Winterization assistance for the Internally Displaced Persons in Ukraine
According to an overview by the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs dated 18 September 2014, there are 275,489 internally displaced people in Ukraine. The Polish Centre for International Aid is implementing a project addressed to internally displaced people in Kharkiv and towns to the south-east of Kharkiv, including Liubotyn, Staryi Merchnik, Valky, Snizhkiv and Nova Vodolaha. The initiative is aimed at helping 380 families to reach material stability or find adequate shelter for the winter period.
Under the project, internally displaced people will be able to choose between:
- aid in kind of up to UAH 2,000 per family. If this form of assistance is selected, the amount of aid will be divided together with the beneficiary, and allocated to different purposes, such as purchasing blankets, clothes, building materials, fuel, etc., based on an on-site inspection of housing conditions or a detailed interview;
- financial aid of UAH 1,800 per family. Under this form of aid, beneficiaries will receive an ATM card, which will enable them to withdraw cash of up to UAH 1,800 at any time. The card will be valid for one year.
