The transport for the Educational Institute for Blind Children

The Rwanda Union of the Blind informs that there are 64,000 blind people in Rwanda, including 20,000 children. Only 2% of them have access to education. In 2016, 165 children received education in the facility, including 133 in the primary school and 32 in the secondary school. Ultimately, the number of students should amount to 200. Presently, the facility consists of 9 buildings, employs about 65 people and serves as a model educational facility in Rwanda. Within the framework of the Polish Aid programme, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs erected four buildings in 2008-2009 constituting the Centre, moreover,  additional equipment and the  Centre's extension were financed in the following years.

On 30 May 2016, as a result of an accident, Toyota Land Cruiser, the only car possessed by the Centre that was suitable for transporting children, was seriously damaged. It needs to be urgently repaired. The entire bodywork has to be replaced, but the engine and chassis  are intact.

The transport for the Educational Institute for Blind Children

The project is scheduled to be implemented from 15 July to 1 August 2016, thanks to the cooperation of the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Nairobi and the Educational Institute for Blind Children in Kibeho run by the Franciscan Sisters Servants of the Cross in Kibeho. The Institute provides the blind with education at elementary level and prepares its students for practical aspects of living in the society of people with no vision impairment.

The objective of the project is to restore the possibility of transporting people, mostly children - the Institute's students. The Institute needs to have a transportation vehicle, in case of, among others, health problems of the children, when it is necessary to take them to a health facility. Moreover, the car is indispensable in such situations as, for instance, transporting volunteers or taking care of official matters in the capital of the province. The  project involves the replacement of the bodywork. The Institute will be responsible for implementing the entire project.

For the purposes of calculation, the following exchange rate was applied: EUR 1 = PLN 4.1749.
