Support for the integral development of children and adolescents in province Datem del Marañón in Peru - continuation of project
The project was implemented between 11th June and 31st December 2012 in San Lorenzo in Datem del Marañón province(Peru) and counted with participation of two volunteers who stayed there from 1st August to 31st December 2012. The coordinator of the project was the Salesian Missionary Voluntary Service - Youth For The World, and the local partner was the Catholic Parish in San Lorenzo, Peru.
Children living in the province were the main beneficiaries of the project. Thanks to the activities they were given an opportunity of participation in multiple workshops and courses.
The volunteers organised a total of 82 hours of English classes in 3 age groups, attended by 37 participants. They carried out a total of 60 hours of compensatory classes, maths, geography, English, history, biology and homework help, attended by 36 children.
They also organised various development activities, such as a film club (24 hours, 46 participants), anthropology-geography workshops (16 hours, 24 participants), 21 hours of theatre workshops, 102 hours of sport activities (49 participants), and music and art classes with 52 children.
Another component was resuming the activity of a library and promoting reading among children and youth. By working in the library (8 hours/week) and reading for children and adolescents, the number of people loaning books rose considerably.
As a result of the project, the children participating in the activities developed positive psychological and social habits.
As part of the global education initiative, 600 copies of a book including parts of a SMVS volunteers’ blogs were published and distributed.
