Social Bakery in the Rehabilitation Center for Women

A Rehabilitation Centre for Women run by “Community in Dialogue” is situated in Vyzyrka, a town in the Odessa Region, Odessa is facing a serious unemployment problem. It is estimated that the Odessa Oblast has approximately 30,000 internally displaced persons and the level of engagement of international organisations acting for their benefit is low.

The rehabilitation centre for men has been operating for two years now. During this period, seven men who overcame their addictions re-entered the society. The rehabilitation project for women with addictions began in April 2015. At present, five women participate in the project. The purpose of the rehabilitation is to help them function normally in the society once again. For this reason, the programme offers them, among others, daily work therapy, so that they can relearn the habit of working and performing their tasks diligently, being responsible for their obligations and develop their skills. Creating a Social Bakery in the Centre for Women will allow them to become bakers or confectioners and acquire experience.

The project is scheduled to be implemented from 1 September to 31 December 2016 in cooperation with the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Kiev and its local partner, the Vincent de Paul Congregation of the mission - Saints Cyril and Methodius Vice-Province. Its primary objective is to allow women to become bakers or confectioners and engage in gainful employment, which is especially important for refugees who are unable to return to their previous place of residence.

The project provides for building and equipping the bakery. Its operation will bring profit, which will partially offset the expenses connected with supporting the functioning of the rehabilitation centres for men and women. Selling products will also allow to promote the concept of social responsibility in the community - buyers support the Centre's operation and help women overcome their addiction and return to the society where they can function normally. Production activities at the bakery is to begin in the first quarter of 2017. The women rehabilitated at the “Community in Dialogue” Rehabilitation Centre are the direct beneficiaries of the project. The De Paula charity in Ukraine and the “Community in Dialogue” Rehabilitation Centre are also the beneficiaries of the project.
