Moving Beyond Electoral Democracies: Enhancing the Capacities of Political Actors Before, During and After the Electoral Process[1]

The discussion centred on how to ensure that the EU offer aimed at enhancing democratization processes is credible. The panellists agreed that it is not sufficient to take the traditional approach which focuses on helping organize and monitor parliamentary elections.  Support offer should also be extended to political parties. This kind of support can be offered by political foundations, which for many years have been engaged in information and education campaigns addressed to political activists. Gilbert Kiakwama shared his experiences in cooperating with political foundations. His party has benefited from a number of trainings that prepared its candidates to speak in public, exchange political views and stand for public offices.
