Global Education in the Pre-School and Early School Education
The project was coordinated by the Centre for Environmental Activities “Źródła” from the 1st of June until the 31st of December 2012. A part of the project’s activities took place in Łódź, others were held in 20 towns in 11 voivodeships (Kuyavian-Pomeranian, Lublin, Łódź, Lesser Poland, Masovian, Opole, Lower-Silesian, Silesian, Greater Poland, Subcarpatian, Podlaskie), others were nationwide. The project’s direct beneficiaries were the kindergarten and primary school teachers. The aim of the project was to raise awareness of the teachers about the global interdependences in the modern world, and of the impact of the individual involvement and attitudes on the condition of the world.
The project’s activities included the preparation of the educational package that consisted of the substantive introduction and 10 lesson plans about selected countries of the Global South. In order to improve the prepared materials, several test classes were conducted for the children from the kindergartens and the first grades of primary school. In 11 voivodeships a series of trainings was organised for the teachers, who later begun conducting workshops in their schools. Those activities were to be continued after the completion of the project.
In total, the project included 50 test classes attended by 92 children. 471 teachers and educators from 11 voivodeships participated in total in all trainings. The website of the project was created, and it contains a complete educational package and additional materials. Among the multimedia available online, there are presentations and 15 instruction films with a total length of approximately 50 minutes. The educational materials created as part of the project were published in 1000 copies and offered to the people and institutions from the regions not covered by the trainings. They were sent to superintendents, Teacher Training Centres, educational institutions and libraries throughout the country.
