Creation of team building area in Ein Zaarour permanent summer camp

The project will be implemented in the Ein Zaarour permanent summer camp in Jezzine, Southern Lebanon Province. The project is located in one of the most known tourist destinations in southern part of the country. Despite wonderful conditions, the area is much less popular, for instance among the residents of Beirut (where half the population of the country resides), due to the stereotypical and negative perception of the south. The vast majority of the tourist infrastructure is located to the north of the capital. Jezzine is a Christian town with, among others, the only vineyard in southern Lebanon, out of approximately 40 vineyards spread in the entire country.

The residents are trying to stimulate tourism (particularly eco-tourism), which could revive the local economy. With the influx of guests from abroad, determined by the security situation, organising summer camps and other types of stays in the camp (the season lasts for almost the entire year) is entirely reasonable.

The project is scheduled to be implemented from 1 July to 31 December 2016 in cooperation with the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Beirut and its local partner, a non-governmental organization, the Development for People and Nature Association (DPNA). Its objective is to create an opportunity for a wider offers of activities for the camp participants - children, teenagers and other people who use the Ein Zaarour permanent summer camp for training courses in team building, integration, etc. More broadly, the expected objective will be an increase in social cohesion, establishing bonds between different social groups, for instance between local residents and refugees.

The project will provide for creating a place for genuine integration activities in the area of the old Ein Zaarour summer camp. It will increase its functionality and possible manners of using it. It is in line with the plans for developing the centre and the aid it has received so far, inter alia, from UNICEF, the Embassy of the Netherlands in Beirut and local authorities in Jezzine, in terms of preparing the land, purchasing necessary equipment, etc. In the long run, it will also impact the development of tourism in the region.

The beneficiaries of the project will be the participants of summer camps, children, teenagers from Lebanon and Syrian and Palestinian refugees, participating in integration measures taken by the DPNA. The 3-7-day camps organised up to this date consisted of 50 to 80 participants. There were 13 summer camps of this type. The camp is constantly being developed and its offer is addressed to the representatives of social organisations, which want to train and integrate its members.

The value of the project amounted to approximately PLN 83,500 (20,000 American dollars) and was fully covered by the Polish Aid's funds. For the purposes of calculation, the following exchange rate was applied: USD 1 = PLN 4.1793.
