The Stefan Banach programme is part of Polish scholarship offer addressed to developing countries. So far, it has been one of the most visible Polish development projects in the East, because it was addressed mainly to students from the Eastern Partnership countries (Belarus, Georgia, Moldova, Ukraine) and Central Asia (Armenia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan).
Under the Polish presidency of the Berlin Process, the scholarship offer prepared by the Polish National Agency for Academic Exchange will be also available to students from Western Balkan countries (Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Kosovo, Macedonia and Serbia) starting from the 2019/2020 academic year.
The scholarship programme supports the social and economic growth of developing countries in Europe and Central Asia through raising their education level and upgrading professional skills of their citizens. The scheme is named after Stefan Banach, an outstanding Polish mathematician, co-founder of the Lvov School of Mathematics and of the branch of mathematics called functional analysis.
In the 2019/2020 academic year, 75 scholarship holders will be offered a possibility to pursue a graduate degree at a higher education institution supervised by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education. Candidates choose a university and academic programme of their preference from among those offered by Polish universities. The main advantage of the programme is free education offered to students enrolled at engineering, technical, agricultural, as well as exact and natural science faculties. Additionally, before beginning their studies, participants attend a one-year preparatory course, including Polish language classes. During the course and the studies, students receive a monthly scholarship in the amount of PLN 1,500.
Admission procedure starts in March 2019 and will be open for two months. Candidates can apply online.
